Center for Sustainable Development


SURYA has established the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) at village Pawana inBhadrawatitahsil of Chandrapur district in Maharashtra.Temperature goes up to 48 oC in summer and as low as 7 oC in winter. Many times, it records highest temperature in India. Average annual rainfall is 1250mm with 59 rainy days. Village is surrounded by forest in eastern side, which is sub-forest of Tadoba sanctuary and hosts about 8 tigers. 56 acre water pond is on southern side. Nullahsurrounds the village from north and west sides. Project focuses on developing comprehensive sustainable model.Youths learn to apply engineering and scientific principles (those used in Process Industries) for sustainability. More than 100 students from renowned engineering, management& science colleges including VNIT, ICT, IIT, XLRI, Hislop, polytechnic, schools have been benefitted with the learning from this model.Sustainable Development Goals 2, 6, 7 and 13 are being achieved.
